Hi, everyone! Gosh, it's been a while, huh? I'm dropping in to let you know that Paper Cranes and its sites are moving back to KORE.SINFREE.NET temporarily. Kya decided to shut down, so until I can find a more permanent home, everything will be back at the old free server.

In Progress: Emerald Star

I began working on Emerald Star for the first time in nearly a year this afternoon. I'd originally thought that the close of and a free month at the end of the summer would turn into a revamp marathon and that ES would be open already. But I realized I was just burned out on shrining all together. It didn't even bother me that everything was down, and that the only things I was actively keeping up with were my fanlistings and trade post. I've taken breaks from shrining in the past, but I've always worked behind the scenes. This is the first time I've really stepped away -- no layout-making, no coding, no organizing, no editing. It was one of the best things I've done for myself in a long time.

I spent a while this morning perusing Web Archive to refresh my design history. I realized how much I miss the simplified one-layout-per-page format, and I'd like to revive that in some way when I relaunch ES. My goal is simplicity, and I hope to implement things like update and comment scripts, email and submission forms, things that would require less effort in the long run on my part.

The process will be slow. Since this will likely be the last major overhaul for ES, I want to take my time and enjoy it. Somewhere along the way I lost touch with the joy of the process. When I started back in 2000, putting on a CD or the radio and playing with Photoshop and Notepad was one of my favorite ways to waste an afternoon. I want that feeling back. I want to quit worrying about the result. I think my shrine will be better for it.

Update: Crimson Mysteria, Emerald Star

Crimson Mysteria has been updated with a new layout. I made it months ago, but I never seemed to get around to putting it up. It may be a bit busy, but it's a nice change from the last one.

You'll notice that a lot of sections are still unopened. I hope to change that over the summer. I also (finally) uploaded the lovely fanart that dubiousdisc made me for the Amassment Secret Santa event (I have uploaded the Sailorjupiter pictures to Emerald Star as well). If anyone would like to submit fanwork (I accept all kinds), please send me an email.

Announcement + Update: Hosting, Fanlistings, Emerald Star

First, I'd just like to say that I'm really touched by the support I've received regarding my last post. I'm glad that I'm part of such a generous and encouraging circle of shrine-makers, and I'm so flattered by the people who spoke up about missing my sites if they were gone. I'm also touched by the number of you who have offered to host me. Thank you all so much! I'm still not sure what I want to do, but I'm glad to know that I have options.

In other news, I'm trying to break myself of the need to only update when I've accomplished great changes and to instead offer little changes as they come. So for now I've updated the links at Emerald Star and added some Livejournal icons to the media page. If you would like to exchange links, leave a note!

I have also converted Romancing the Firebird and Tempest to Enthusiast, which means that now all of my fanlistings are running on that script.

Announcement: Hosting, Changes

At the beginning of August, garrus is letting expire.

This leaves Paper Cranes and all its sites in limbo. There are a couple of directions in which I could go at the time being:

1. Let the collective expire. My interest in shrine-making has waxed and waned over the years, and I've been flirting with the idea of letting it all go. In the last few years I've really only had the energy to maintain the sites I already own, and I've let quite a few go. The problem is, I'm too attached to the few that remain to let them completely die.

2. Find another host. Lore has offered to host me on her new domain, or I could try to find someone else. As great of a host as she is, it's frustrating not having total control over things like this. Money's really tight right now, so buying my own domain+hosting isn't really an option. Besides, I'm not sure I'd be active enough to justify the cost.

3. Archive everything on my Fateback account. I hate the limitations of free hosts and ads.

I'm going to try to make a firm decision by July to allow enough time for link changes, etc. Your input, as always, is welcome.
